Dolson to Resign as ICA President; Buklis Selected To Follow

 

It is with a bit of sadness, and also with a bit of excitement, that I must offer my resignation as ICA President, effective April 22nd, the date of my move to Indianapolis, Indiana. It's sad because I've spent 7 years as ICA Treasurer and almost 3½ years as ICA President, and I would prefer not to leave an organization I firmly believe does great work for chess in Illinois. I'm excited because of where we'll be going and what we'll be doing in Indiana.

ICA to Form Veterans Committee - Volunteers Sought

 

The ICA Executive Board has approved the formation of a Veterans Committee whose goal is to improve the opportunity for Illinois military veterans to learn, play, and enjoy the game of chess.

Carl Dolson, President of the ICA, has appointed Michael Lenox, a retired Navy veteran, to chair the Committee. Michael says that the game of chess was instrumental in helping him recover from a stroke suffered 10 years ago.

ICA December Board Meeting Cancelled

The 2015 ICA Board Meeting slated for December 10 was cancelled due to a lack of a quorum. No replacement meeting has been scheduled.

ICA Election results have been certified by committee and Scott Daniels and Jerry Neugarten were re-elected to the ICA Board as At-Large members, while Kevin Taylor, who joined the board as an appointee several months ago, was also elected to a full term.

Their terms are for two years, running through 2017 beginning 1/1/2016.

Two additional slots on the board are available: one slated for someone residing in Cook or collar counties and one designated for any other county in the state.

Lost and Found at Illinois Class

A blue Saitek clock was located at the Illinois Class -- in the skittles room.

The clock has four letters on the back... and will gladly be returned to anyone who can identify what those letters might be.

Hector Hernandez to Receive Broughton Award at ICA Annual Banquet

The Illinois Chess Association has selected Hector Hernandez to receive the prestigious Natalie W. Broughton Lifetime Achievement in Chess Award at the ICA Annual Banquet.
