On August 11th, players everywhere from Peoria, IL to Milwaukee, WI descended onto the Naperville Campus of DePaul University for the first ever Elite Chess Summer Open. With both rated and scholastic unrated sections, the tournament appealed to a wide audience. The event was a great success with just under 80 rated and unrated players competing for cash or trophy prizes. Strong expert player Steffen Klug took home the $140 first prize with a perfect score in the Championship Division.

Meanwhile, the team of Kymantas Alborovas and Joseph Fennessey prevailed in the bughouse challenge. It was the second tournament that Elite Chess has ever held and due to the success, organizer Jeff DiOrio is already planning his next event which will take place in December.
