Registrations Surpass 100 for '16 IL Class Nov. 20

If you would like a full-day of quality chess against compatible but not overwhelming opponents, there is no doubt that the 2016 Illinois Class would fill the bill.

The November 20 event is sponsored by the Illinois Chess Association with proceeds going towards supporting ICA operations and programs.

$30 (U1200 and U800 sections) and $50 registration slots (Masters & Experts, Classes A through D) are still available for ICA members with non-members paying $5 more.

Registration can be accomplished here: http://www.kingregistration.com/tournaments/event/ILClass2016. 114 took advantage of early registration discounts. The 2015 Illinois Class fielded 166 players.

In order to get the lower entry fee one must be a member of the ICA ($15 for adults, $10 for juniors) but one does NOT need to be an ICA member in order to play. In fact, several out-of-state players are excited about playing in the Illinois Class.

ICA membership -- in addition to supporting programs and operations -- provides both junior (Under age 19) and adult members $5 discounts in a number of events including:

  • Illinois Class
  • Illinois Open
  • Chicago Open
  • Chicago Class
  • Midwest Class

Most other Illinois Tour events offer some discount. So there is no doubt that the membership pays for itself in benefits.

A $500 prize is available in the Master / Expert section with $150 prizes for Class A, Class B, Class C or Class D sections.

U1200 and U800 sections offer trophy prizes -- with organizers bolstering the trophy array -- in lieu of medals -- and adding a top unrated trophy in both those sections.

While ICA membership is optional, US Chess membership is REQUIRED. While sadly we have no particular "deal" for adults, we do have a discounted USCF membership available for only $11 for the year for any youth up through the high school age.

Should be a great day for chess at the Hilton Lisle -- come out and enjoy the final event of the 2016 Illinois Chess Tour!
