Illinois Youth in USCF Top 100 -- June 2014

Several changes in how the USCF processes its top 100 lists, as well as a change in personnel, lead to the delay in publication of this month's tallies. The rules also changed regarding the timing of the birthday calculation.
On the local front, numerous birthdays transitioned many top Illinois players to its incremental counterpart: Aaron Gan, Martin Stukan, David Peng, Shreya Mangalam, Edward Zhang, James Wei and Sam Schmakel. Happy Birthday to you all!
For David Korobov, turning 19 means the end of his run on the youth top 100 lists but I'm sure we'll continue to see great things from David, an expert, who tied for seventh out of 86 at the recent Fineberg Memorial.
For the second month in a row, Illinois boasts four juniors with Masters titles and 14 Experts, even with David's birthday, thanks to Matthew Stevens rejoining the group. Just wait until next month's official ratings -- or more likely September's when July's Chicago Class results are factored in.
Joining the nation's top 100 lists for the first time was 5-year old Dimitar Mardov. Dimitar is actually the top-rated 5-year old in the US, but the USCF has a catchall list for 7-and-unders. Only one other 5-year old made the June list and Dimitar is 38 points higher than his Texas counterpart.
Ricky Wang posted the most dramatic rating increase with a 151-point bump, entering Class A territory for the first time. He is now the top 10-year old in the State of Illinois!
Vrishank Ramnath was up 95 rating points over May, Jonathan Tan enhanced his rating 62 points.
Ratings as of May 21 were used to develop the lists which were published by the USCF July 3.
