Illinois Youth in USCF Top 100 as of January 2015

22! Illinois now boasts 22 youth with USCF regular ratings of 2000 or higher with four Masters and 18 Experts.
A pair of 14-year olds was the key to these new totals; George Li earned his Master title and Daniel Bronfeyn is now in Expert territory as of the January 2015 official ratings. With fellow 14-year old Jack Curcio climbing to 1998, it's likely this group will have company very soon. (See note below)*
Also entering new class distinction this month was 12-year old Ishaar Ganesan who raised his rating 88 points to enter Class A status. 7-year old Alex Zhao bumped his rating 79 points, entering Class D territory.
The highest enhancement among top youth was achieved by Siddarth Acharya whose rating climbed 106 points as he celebrated his 11th birthday. Edgar Talayko was up 83 points, Nikhil Kalghatgi grabbed 50 points, Jacob Furfine hiked 45 points to 2162.
The Illinois lists were bolstered with the addition of North Carolina import Jayadeep Boya who played his first Illinois event at the Bradley Winter Open last month. Also joining the lists were Minkee Lee and returning was Eli Goering.
For a state with 4 percent of the US population, Illinois hosts nine of the top 100 among both 11-year olds and 18-year olds this month.
58 juniors from Illinois made this month's lists which is believed to be an all-time high.
* Editor's note: Jack's official February rating will be exactly 2000 thanks to his (Tim Just) Winter Open performance.
