79 Illinois Girls Compete in Nationals at McCormick Place

Illinois females showed up en masse for the 2015 All-Girls Nationals completed April 19.

The six-round, six-section event was held at the Hyatt Convention Complex at Chicago's McCormick Place, representing the twelfth year for the competition.

National Tournament Director Glenn Panner served as Chief Tournament Director with NTD Jeff Wiewel running the computers.

Out of 83 in the Under 8 section, Neola Edwin tied for seventh place (10th on tiebreaks) with 4.5/6. Neola raised her raiting 303 points with four wins, one loss, and a draw.

Saanvi Adusumalli and Kate Lin were a half-point back, tying for 13th place with 4.0's. Allie Trifonov posted a 3.5, tying for 26th place, at one point winning three games in a row.

Maya Behura of Florida was the clear winner in the section, scoring a perfect 6.0.

In Under 10 competition, Alice Fan and Esma Frieden had the highest Illinois scores, tying for 26th place with 3.5's. There was a three way tie for first when Texas' Anh Nguyen drew New York's Nivedita Morris in the final round. Maya Doron-Repa also posted 5.5.

Under 12's saw Washington's Naomi Bashkansky take clear first at 5.5 ahead of a trio scoring 5.0's. Wisconsin's Divya Pandey, a frequent Illinois tournament player, and Chicagoan Aria Hoesley both posted 4.5's to tie for fifth place (taking sixth and seventh respectively on tiebreaks). 

Ashley Yan and Rujuta Durwas both posted 3.5's, tying for 21st place.

Minh-An Thomas, Devanshi Kothari and Bernadette Schwegel all tallied 3.0's, tying for 27th place out of 70 entrants.

In Under 14 play, Marissa Li and Miranda Liu tied for fourth place with 4.5's. Wisconsin's Ritika Pandey was also in that score group, handing Miranda her only loss in the third round.

Camille Kao of Texas was the clear winner at 5.5. Her only blemish was a third round draw to Thalia Cervantes of Missouri. Thalia was denied a share of the championship with a sixth-round draw to Miranda.

Shayna Provine tied for fith place in the U16 with a 4.0 tally. On tiebreaks, she took home eighth place hardware. Cassie Parent was a half-point back at 3.5, tying for 12th place. Wisconsin's Chloe Wong and Illinois' Shvetali Thatte and Isha Gani scored 3.0's., tying for 16th.

Maggie Luo of Virginia was the clear U16 winner at 5.0. 

With 2.5 points from two players, Chicago's De La Salle High School earned the third place trophy.

There was a four-way tie for first in the Under 18 which included Wisconsin's Anapama Rajendra. Chicago's Caeley Harihara posted a 3.5, participating in a four-way tie for sixth place (8th on tiebreaks). 

De La Salle took the third place team trophy with 4.0 points from two players.

358 competed in the main sections. Announcement is pending on the site of the 2016 All-Girls.
