Most players are happy to see their ratings increase a few dozen points at a tournament. At the 2017 Winter Scholastic, Ryan Kong enhanced his rating 139 points with four wins and an opening round draw.

Four players tied for second place a half-point back with 4.0/5: Jack Santner, Krish Khana, Advaith Kodipparambil and Atharva Awasthi. Kodipparambil and Awasthi both surpassed 1000. Ratings order was not published by the organizer as of this date.

Kodipparmabil provided Khana his lone blemish in the fourth round but fell to the champion in the final round.

Four players tied for sixth place with 3.5/5 with trophy order unpublished at this time. Included in that score group were Rahul Ravisundar Ethan Ding, Pranav Saravankumar and Daniel Black.

In the Under 700 section, Jack Ding played in his first rated event and won all five of his games.

Andy Xia took clear second place with four wins and a draw for a 4.5/5 score.

Four players tied for third place with 4.0/5 including Kevin Yang, David Wang, Jacob Kidwell, and Justin Chen.

Peter Wang and Lily Megoda tied for seventh place with 3.5/5 tallies.

Trophy order publication -- based on tiebreaks -- is pending.

The Winter Scholastic was held at the Hyatt Schaumburg in conjunction with the all-ages Tim Just Winter Open. 84 participated in the Scholastic.
