Aria Hoesley won the top section (K-6) of the 49-player Decatur Chess Challenge, completed November 10 at Decatur Classical Elementary.

Aria's 3.0 score placed her a half-point ahead of Lucas Staniszewski and Ricky Chen who finished 2.5. Lucas and Ricky drew in the first round. 12 competed in the section.

In the K-4, John Seward and William De Allaume posted perfect 3.0's to top the 16 player field.

A five-way tie for third place -- at 2.0/3 -- included Jashan Dalal, Journey Jackson, Joshua Lee, Evan Flauta and Josephine Swan.

In the K-2 section, Samuel Shin and Tianne Wang both scored perfect 3.0's. Sean Doyle placed third with two wins and a draw for a 2.5 score.
